Budur

Arabic for ‘seeds’ – is a pioneering initiative dedicated to fostering integration and equal opportunities for Arab-Bedouin citizens of Israel through the power of language. Established in 2022 by young Arab-Bedouin professionals who personally experienced the challenges of limited Hebrew proficiency, Budur aims to bridge the language gap and empower Arab-Bedouin youth with the linguistic tools needed for success in higher education, employment, and society.

The Hebrew Language Barrier
Lack of fluency in Hebrew is a major barrier preventing young people from Arab society from integrating into employment, academia, and Israeli society at large. While many Arab youth can read and write in Hebrew, they struggle to speak and express themselves fluently. As a result, they are often excluded from key educational and employment opportunities in the country.

Our Approach
There are no magic solutions!

Language learning is a significant challenge. Over time, we have developed four key components that together enable meaningful Hebrew language acquisition in Arab schools:

1. In-Person Learning
Led by native Hebrew-speaking teachers (in high schools) and instructors (in elementary schools). Beyond vocabulary and grammar, they teach expressions, cultural context, and the essence of the language.

2. Digital Practice Tools
Acquiring a language requires ongoing practice. To address the challenge of limited classroom time, we developed a spoken Hebrew practice app. The app enables precise tracking of student progress over time.

3. Professional Development
For school teaching staff, providing them with tools and methodologies for teaching spoken Hebrew effectively.

4. Immersive Hebrew Learning Environments
Arab students have limited exposure to spoken Hebrew. We create dedicated spaces within schools where students can see, hear, and interact in Hebrew through play and daily activities.

Professional Management and Evaluation

The pedagogy of Budur’s programs is designed, supported, and implemented by AAP, Israel’s leading experts in teaching spoken Hebrew as a second language. They bring extensive experience in foreign language instruction.

Throughout the school year, we conduct continuous monitoring and external evaluations to ensure student success through standardized assessments and independent testing.
